In 1959 my father took a wooden train from Palma to Soller through a mountain range to look at real oranges growing on trees. This train journey and oranges growing on trees were etched in our imaginations growing up in the barren Burren. Brian had a stroke and was not able to do that journey again, so I took myself in 2019 to the train, through the mountains, 60 years later.
I recorded the journey on my phone - going through 13 tunnels and over an aqueduct. Every moment of that day was intoxicating.
and the taste of those oranges is embossed with the clatter of the wooden train somewhere very sweet.
